- Upgrade to gas mains in Victoria Road, Romford, to ensure local people keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies
- Traffic management will include road closures in Victoria Road, Albert Road, Carlisle Road and Manor Road
- Bulk of work scheduled for school summer holiday period to ensure disruption is minimised
Cadent engineers are preparing to carry out an essential upgrade to the local gas mains network in Romford which will help ensure local people keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies.
The engineers will be reconfiguring gas mains in Victoria Road, Romford, to help ensure the local community keep on enjoying safe, reliable and efficient gas supplies in the future.
The work is due to start on Tuesday 24 July and is scheduled to take eight weeks to complete, this has been designed to encompass the school summer holiday period when commuter traffic levels are lower.
Engineers will be working in Victoria Road, Albert Road, Carlisle Road, Manor Road and Mercury Gardens.
To enable them to carry out the work safely and efficiently the following closures will be in place:
First Phase 24 July to 28 August 2018
Victoria Road will be closed at the junction with Mercury Gardens.
Albert Road will be closed at its exit and made temporarily two way to vehicles
Phase Two 28 August to 18 September 2018
Closure at Victoria Road junction with Mercury Gardens reduced to an eastbound directional closure.
Carlisle Road closed.
Manor Road will remain open for the majority of the project as a bus diversion route, it will then be closed for the final connection work at the end of the project with Victoria Road reopening under two way traffic lights.
Throughout the project, all shops and businesses will remain open as usual and Cadent will do all it can to deliver the work with as little disruption as possible.
Cadent Authorising Engineer Mick Morris said: “This project involves reconfiguring the gas mains network to ensure local people remain connected to safe, reliable and efficient gas supplies for cooking and heating.”
He added: “We’ve worked closely with the London Borough of Havering to ensure any inconvenience to people who work, live or travel through the area is minimised during our work.
“Steps we’ve taken include using technology to carry out the work by accessing the gas mains through three insertion points – rather than by digging traditional large open trenches – doing this will reduce a lot of disruption for road users.
“Also scheduling the bulk of the work for the school summer holiday period when roads are traditionally quieter will further minimise inconvenience.”
The project work is part of Cadent’s investment to replace and upgrade the gas mains in London to help ensure the capital enjoys a 21st century infrastructure network and remains one of the world’s leading cities.
