- Major multiphase gas mains replacement project announced for Canvey Island

Plans have been announced for a major gas mains replacement programme on Canvey Island which will help ensure locals keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies until the 22
nd century.
Work is due to get underway next month and is currently expected to take around eight months to complete. It’s planned to deliver the work as follows:
Phase One
New gas mains will be installed from Smallgains Avenue to Point Road via Westman Road and Buren Avenue. A new gas regulator will also be installed on the verge at the junction of Westman Road.
Phase Two
Work to install new gas mains and service pipes will take place in Smallgains Avenue, Ormo Road, Rattwick Drive, Linroping Avenue and Westman Road.
Phase Three
Work to install new gas mains and service pipes will take place in Smallgains Avenue, Hornsland Road, Henson Avenue, Hannet Road and Bardenville Road.
Phase Four
Work to install new gas mains and service pipes will take place in Smallgains Avenue, Hallet Road and Norton Avenue.
Phase Five
Work to install new gas mains and service pipes will take place in Smallgains Avenue, Temptin Avenue, Gifhorn Road, Geylen Road, Limetree Road and Wamburg Road.
Phase Six
Work to install new gas mains and service pipes in Holbek Road, Rosberg Road, Zealand Drive and Rattwick Drive.
An open evening for residents is planned to be held at Canvey Island Rugby Club, Dovervelt Road, SS8 8EA on Thursday 24 October between 5pm and 8pm.
Gas supply at properties where we are replacing old gas service pipes will need to be disconnected for up to 48 hours to enable the work to be carried ouit. Engineers will contact those affected customers in advance of this work being carried out.
Local shops and businesses will remain open throughout the project.
Cadent Authorising Engineer Jason Allday said: “We’re working closely with the local authority to ensure we minimise disruption to the area.
“The project will help ensure the local community keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies until the 22
nd century and also cut disruption caused by leaks from ageing gas mains.”
