Why Cadent’s military community now has a spectacular Silver lining

working for us

We’re absolutely thrilled that Cadent has been awarded the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award.

Our supportive HR policies to military Reservists, as well as the growth of our employee-led ‘Cadent Military Community’, were held as exemplars, helping us continue our journey towards being truly diverse and inclusive.

Last week, during a ceremony held at the magnificent National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, our employees and CMC members Dave Mounfield, Lee Rowland and Joseph Harvey accepted this award on behalf of the company.

Dave said: “We created our Cadent Military Community two years ago with this award in our sights. It shows that Cadent is delivering tangible support to the armed forces community, as well as our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant and our Veteran, Reservist, Cadet and forces family community.

“This is one of many fantastic work streams within the business to improve our diversity, equity and inclusion. Since signing the Armed Forces Covenant in 2018 we have worked extremely hard across the organisation to create an environment of inclusivity for all. Our executive team and everyone working here has shown leadership and commitment to the forces community.

"We look forward to working towards gaining the gold award in the coming years.

“I would like to thank all members of the Community for their input, insightfulness, humour and dedication towards our shared objective. We couldn’t have achieved this without you!

“I would like to mention that the event coincided with Lee Rowland's last day in work before his retirement after 30-plus years in the business. Lee has been instrumental in the success of the CMC and a huge supporter of all we do and have done.

“It was a fitting tribute to a man of his stature and professionalism to be at the National Memorial Arboretum, it was amazing to see and hear him reminisce about his time in the Forces and explain how the set him up for a very successful career in the gas industry.

"The business as a whole will miss Lee, his experience, knowledge, humility, expertise, and nuanced understanding of what we do has helped us all.  We wish Lee and his family the very best for the future”.

We want diversity and inclusion to be woven into the fabric of who we are as a business, and this means it needs to be driven by our people and supported by everyone. One of the ways we do this is through our employee communities. The Cadent Military Community is one of five communities we have here at Cadent

Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
