Complex Repair Job: Cadent engineers carrying out essential work in Nazeing

in your area

Cadent is continuing a complex operation to locate and repair a suspected gas escape in Nazeing, Essex.

The work is taking place around the junction with North Street, Middle Street and St Leonard’s Road.

A road closure is due to be put in place in St Leonard’s Road later today (Tuesday 19 November) as engineers close in on the location of the suspected leak.

The job involves a number engineering challenges including having to carefully dig through a thick concrete and tarmac road surface to get to a labyrinth of gas pipes below, where the suspected leak may be coming from.

Digging has to be done cautiously as great care must be taken not to damage the gas pipes or the other electricity cables and water pipes which run through the area.

Engineers have now identified the potential source of the suspected gas escape,

However, to safely dig down to it and locate and repair the suspected leak St Leonard’s Road must be closed.

Cadent has now agreed the road closure with local authority and a signed diversion is being put in place.

Multi direction traffic lights are also being used and these are being manned from 7am to 7pm to ensure traffic flows are maintained as much as possible.

Engineers are also working extended hours to ensure the leak is located and repaired as soon as possible.

We’re sorry for any disruption the work may cause and we’re working to complete the work as soon as possible.

That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
