Working in the summertime: Cadent schedule essential gas mains work for school holiday period in Ilford

  • Essential project to maintain safe and reliable gas supplies starts soon
  • Work planned for Green Lane this summer designed to minimise disruption
  • Traffic management will include lane closures and diversions
As people prepare for their summer holidays Cadent engineers are preparing to start an essential project to help ensure the local community keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies.
The work to upgrade the local gas mains in Green Lane, Ilford, is due to begin on Monday 24 July and to be complete by Friday 11 August.
To enable the work to be carried out safely and efficiently lane closures will be implemented along Green Lane between High Road and Sunnyside Road. Signed diversions will be in place for road users via High Road and Goodmayes Road with separate diversions in place for local buses via Connaught Road.
Cadent Authorising Engineer Dave Jewson said: “We’ve scheduled the work for the school summer holiday period when the roads are generally quieter to help ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum.
“This essential work will help ensure local homes, businesses and community facilities keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating in the future.”
The project will also involve work to replace gas service pipes to a number of properties. This will involve the supply being temporarily disconnected to the properties involved to enable work to be completed.  Cadent is liaising with those properties affected to arrange this.
Mr Jewson added: “People should always ask to see official identification from anyone trying to gain access to their property.
“All our staff carry official identity cards and will not be offended if people ask to see these.”

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
