  • Work scheduled to take place between March and November 2020
  • Project will involve work in section of Roe Green Park and Kingsbury Road footpath

Plans have been announced for a £4m upgrade to the local gas network in Brent.

Cadent, Britain’s largest gas distribution network, have announced plans to upgrade local gas infrastructure at its site in Sutherland Court in Brent.

The project,  will involve a complete rebuild of the current above ground gas infrastructure at the site, work is scheduled to take place  on site from March to December 2020.

To carry out the work some excavations will need to be dug in a nearby footpath adjacent to the site on Kingsbury Road. This will be cordoned off to the public along with a section of Roe Green Park, which will also be used for site welfare facilities during construction.

Workers and vehicles will access the site using both Manor Close and Sutherland Court and construction activities will be closely managed to minimise inconvenience to local residents.

Local shops and businesses will remain open as usual throughout the work and gas
    supplies should not be interrupted.

Project Manager Mark Smethurst said: “The work we’ll be carrying out will help ensure the local gas network keeps people in the area connected to safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating in the years ahead.

“This project will help ensure Londoners continues to enjoy the kind of top class infrastructure which helps make our capital one of the world’s leading cities.”

He added: “We’ve carefully planned the project and worked closely with the local authorities to ensure the project is delivered with minimal disruption for the local community.”

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
