Blog: Another year united against dementia

corporate

It makes me very proud to tell you that we’ve extended our partnership with Alzheimer’s Society into a fourth year.

While we are all facing tough challenges in the coronavirus pandemic, people living with dementia feel it more than many.

Some 850,000 people in the UK live with dementia and over 700,000 have been asked to stay at home in isolation, as they are over 70 years of age and could be at risk. That’s a sobering thought.

Now more than ever it’s important that we continue to support Alzheimer’s Society and help them tackle dementia.

Since its launch in 2017, our colleague-driven partnership with Alzheimer’s Society has seen us raise over £200,000 of vitally needed funds to support those living with dementia and their families.

We’ve also raised awareness of dementia: over 84% of our workforce have attended dementia awareness training and our own ‘Dementia Champions’ have delivered sessions for many organisations.

This dedication to supporting Alzheimer’s Society demonstrates how connected our colleagues are to our corporate charity and how this partnership has enabled us to help not only our customers, but also their families and communities.

The Cadent family has done great things to support people living with dementia and I am looking forward to seeing more success stories over this next year.

Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.

Cadent manages the national gas emergency service free phone line on behalf of the gas industry - 0800 111 999*

Cadent Gas Ltd is owned by a consortium of global investors.
