Cadent has announced an upgrade to its local gas mains network in and around Imperial Road, Fulham.

Work is scheduled to start in early May and is expected to be completed in late July 2018.

Cadent has been working with the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham to ensure the work is carefully planned and delivered with as little disruption as possible.

The work has been scheduled for the late spring and summer period when demand for gas is lower, enabling the section of gas mains being worked upon to be taken out of service without interrupting supplies to the area.

To ensure the project is delivered with minimal inconvenience it has been broken down into three stages.

Phase 1: Thursday 10 May to Friday 25 May
Temporary traffic signals will be installed on a section of Imperial Road near to the junction with Fulmead Street.

Phase 2: Saturday 26 May to Sunday 3 June
Imperial Road will be closed to through traffic to enable work to be carried out. This phase of work has been scheduled for the school half-term holidays when roads are generally quieter to help minimise disruption.
Vehicles will be able to access the commercial and residential units on Imperial Road throughout the period of full closure. There will also be a well signposted diversion route in place.

Phase 3: Monday 4 June to Tuesday 24 July
Temporary traffic signals will be installed on a section of Imperial Road near to the junction with Fulmead Street.

To ensure the work is completed as soon as possible engineers will also be working evenings and weekends.

Adam Knight, Cadent Project Manager said: “We’re carrying out important work to restructure and upgrade our local gas mains distribution network.

“This work will help ensure that we continue to operate a safe, reliable and efficient gas mains network capable of meeting the needs of the local area into the future.”

He added: “We’ll do all we can to complete this essential work as quickly as possible and to ensure that any disruption to people who live, work or travel in the area is minimised.”

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
