How do I get a gas supply to my house? Our new app makes the process much simpler

corporate

A new app developed by Cadent will make the process to connect your home to the gas network a whole lot simpler.

Cadent’s Connections app, developed using Google technology, is now available to download, free of charge, on both Apple’s App Store and Google Play.

Every year, Cadent receives more than 50,000 requests from property owners or developers who want to connect to mains distributed gas.

In many cases, that’s home owners or small developers who’ve never done anything like this before.

“We want to deliver a great customer experience for our new connections customers. The new app is designed to make the process fast, easier and provide immediate support for their questions,” said Tom Notman, Connection Services Director.

“The new app puts the customer in control. It helps and guides every step of the way and allows our customers to monitor progress of their application.

“Crucially, it also makes it simpler – so that you don’t need any gas expertise to get your connection up and running.”

As well as helping people connect to the gas network, the same app can be used to request a disconnection, or an alteration to a gas supply.

The app allows you to:

  • Request all types of gas connection, at any time
  • Track the progress of your requests
  • Provide real-time feedback, as well as photos
  • Contact us with any queries or concerns
  • Access FAQ and helpful documents

It’s the latest in a series of changes Cadent has made to the online customer experience – including new webpages for Connections, and a virtual assistant (called ‘Connie’).

“For us, this is all about the customer experience,” said Tom. “We’ve got exciting times ahead in the gas industry, helping the UK transition to net zero. Key to that is making everything simple and minimal fuss for the consumer – and this new app does just that.”

You’ll find more information on our Connections pages.

Did you know? This app was a ‘citizen development’ project, designed and delivered by five people on Cadent’s graduate scheme – read their story here.

Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.

Cadent manages the national gas emergency service free phone line on behalf of the gas industry - 0800 111 999*
