Cadent Remembers: Employees remember the fallen and veterans on Armistice Day

• Cadent employees join millions around the country observing the two-minute Armistice Day silence
• Cadent launched Cadent Military Community (CMC) to support veterans and reservists earlier this year
• Cadent signed the Military Covenant in 2019 

Employees of Britain’s largest gas distribution network Cadent paused to observe the two-minute silence today.
 
Held every 11 November Armistice Day also known as Remembrance Day marks the day World War one ended at the 11am on the 11^th day of the 11^th month in 1918.
 
Cadent employees remembered both their forebearers in the gas industry who fought in previous conflicts along with veterans and reservists working for the company today.
 
With coronavirus restrictions still in place commemorations were very different this year.
Nevertheless, employees took time out to pause and reflect, whether working from home, the office, operationally or making individual visits to local war memorials.
 
Cadent signed the Armed Forces Covenant last year and this year launched the Cadent Military Community (CMC) which helps veterans and Reservists bridge the gap between military and civilian life.
The group was co-founded by Dave Mounfield, Cadent’s Corporate Security and Resilience Manager who served for 24 years in the Royal Military Police (RMP) all over the world, from Brunei to Canada and Norway to the Balkans.
Reflecting on the Military Values of Courage, Discipline, Respect for others, Integrity, Loyalty and Selfless Commitment, Dave said: “These values have a synergy with our values as a business and that is not the only similarity I see.
“Much like I experienced in the Military we have diverse teams working together on complex, and often dangerous tasks. We have that same comradeship, work mates caring for each other and offering assistance where needed to our communities.”
He added: “Many of our forebearers in the gas industry served in the two world wars and many of those lost their lives or suffered injuries and trauma to protect our freedoms and we have historic memorials to some of them at some of our sites today.
“The Cadent Military Community helps provides another link in that lineage to help raise awareness of what Remembrance Day represents as well as providing a bridge between military and civilian life for today’s veterans and reservists and a supportive work environment for them at Cadent.”
