Keep it flowing: Traffic flows maintained as Cadent announce revised delivery plan for major gas project in Fulham

  • Cadent is carrying out major upgrade to gas mains network in and around Imperial Road, Fulham
  • Previous plans for a full road closure have now been replaced with a single lane closure
  • Local access and gas supplies will be maintained throughout the project

Cadent has redesigned an upgrade to its gas mains network scheme so a previously planned road closure is now no longer needed.

Work began this week and is expected to be completed in late July 2018.

Originally the project was to have been delivered in three phases and it involved a full road closure. However, as part of efforts to reduce disruption the scheme has now been redesigned with a single lane closure replacing the previously announced full road closure.

The revised delivery plan for the project is as follows:

Tuesday 29 May to Tuesday 24 July
Work will take place in Imperial Road between the junction with Fulmead Street and the entrance to Chelsea Creek development site. Throughout this period one lane of Imperial Road will be closed and traffic flows will be managed using temporary three way traffic lights.

Adam Knight, Cadent Project Manager said: “At Cadent we constantly like to innovate and we found we were able to redesign our plans to deliver this work without a full road closure.

“We’re continuing to work closely with the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham to ensure our work is carefully planned and delivered with as little disruption as possible.

The work has been scheduled for the late spring and summer period when demand for gas is lower, enabling the section of gas mains being worked upon to be taken out of service without interrupting supplies to the area.

To ensure the work is completed as soon as possible engineers are also working evenings and weekends.

Mr Knight added: “The project involves restructuring and upgrading the local gas network to help ensure we continue to operate a safe, reliable and efficient gas mains network that can meet the needs of the local area into the future.”

He added: “We hope that all the required upgrade work will be completed this year should any further work be needed after that we’ll let people know.”

Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
