  • Extra work in Brant Road owing to unexpected engineering difficulties
  • Lane closure in Newark Road for traffic heading out of Lincoln for further three weeks

Work to replace an ageing gas main in Newark Road, Lincoln, is to be extended.

A lane closure for traffic heading out of Lincoln will continue for a further three weeks while local gas network Cadent renews the gas main between the Brant Road and Rookery Lane junctions. The lane closure for traffic heading into Lincoln has now been lifted.

Owing to unexpected engineering difficulties, Cadent is having to carry out extra work on a gas pipe in Brant Road so the project can be completed safely.

This work is due to start on 3 April and is expected to take six weeks. To keep staff and motorists safe, lane closures will be in place in Brant Road while the work is under way.

The ageing iron gas main has a history of leaks and  is being replaced with tough, new plastic pipes that will last for at least 80 years.

Cadent Authorising Engineer Paul Martin said:  “Unfortunately, owing to unexpected engineering difficulties we have had to extend the project so we can complete the work safely.

“We would like to thank people for bearing with us and we will do all we can to finish the work as soon as possible. The existing iron gas main has had a history of leaks and needs replacing. The tough new plastic gas pipe will keep local people safe and warm until the end of the century.”

Access to businesses will not be affected.
