Volunteers Week: Cadent help spruce up local YMCA

helping our community

Cadent volunteers have helped make a difference to the lives of young people by volunteering with the YMCA Coventry and Warwickshire, which provides a range of services to meet the needs of local young people aged 16 to 25 years old. The YMCA offers support, mentoring, accommodation and opportunities for personal development, helping the youngsters play an active and fulfilling role within their communities.

The Cadent volunteers have helped spruce up The Haggard Centre, a local community hub which offers youngsters a place where they can meet and enjoy social and learning activities.

A fresh lick of paint was given to the communal areas of the Centre, which has helped bring the rooms back to life.

Cadent Contract Portfolio Manager Jessica Allen was one of the volunteers

She said: “It meant a lot to many people and it was great to work for a centre that helps deprived communities, children and young people.  We had a great time working together to achieve a goal; and now we appreciate things that are generally taken for granted in the working life.”

Holly Devaney, Youth Work Co-ordinator for YMCA commented: “The team have made a huge difference to our space within the Haggard Centre. They got stuck in straight away and went above and beyond to make the space nice and genuinely seemed interested in the work the YMCA. We would absolutely love to work with the team again.”

Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
