Our partnerships with fire & rescue services

safety

There are natural synergies between the work of fire and rescue services and the gas emergency service Cadent.

It’s just part of our joint DNA to work hard to keep people and property safe, and ensure every support is provided to those who may be living in vulnerable circumstances.

Across Cadent’s large UK footprint, we have established partnerships with 19 of the 25 fire and rescue services to help us promote carbon monoxide safety advice (we’re working on the other 6 too).

We supply training, information and CO alarms which fire service staff distribute in areas we know are at high CO risk. It’s reaping great results, increasing awareness of CO by 30%.

And last week, we had the pleasure of giving a presentation to 30 fire professionals, at an event organised by the Institution of Fire Engineers at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston.

Simon Tomlinson introduced Cadent and an overview of the safeguarding services we offer to customers, including locking cooker valves, heated seat covers and welfare packs.

Earl Richards spoke in more detail about the dangers of CO, how to identify its presence in people’s homes and what to do if it is suspected.

These links are a tremendous way to build relationships and deliver on our duty to keep customers – and those who respond to emergencies – safe from any harm.

Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
