Engineers move to fix gas leak Stockport Road A560

in your area

Our engineers have moved in today to fix a leak coming from a gas main under a busy road in Stockport.

Everything is under control and there is no need to worry. We don’t expect anyone’s gas supplies to be affected.

The leak is coming from a pipe that runs underneath the A560 Stockport Road and we need to work in the road to get to it.

So, we have reduced Stockport Road from two lanes to one, near the junction with Lower Bents Lane (heading in the direction towards Stockport).

We don’t yet how long this will take until we’ve assessed the nature of the leak, but we expect to be in situ for a couple of days.

This is not ideal, but it is essential work to keep gas flowing safely to homes and businesses in the local area. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

We have worked closely with Stockport Council’s highways team on these arrangements. Motorists can still travel in all directions as usual – but please budget for extra time to get through.

*Important: if you smell gas, please report it immediately to 0800 111 999 (calls to this number are recorded and may be monitored). Do not dismiss it as related to this work – yours could be a separate incident and we would want to send an engineer to make sure and keep you safe.

Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
