Cadent named as principal sponsor of British Science Festival

 Local Gas Network, Cadent, who have their headquarters in Coventry, have been announced as the principal sponsor of this year’s British Science Festival. The Festival will this year be taking place at the University of Warwick and at venues across Coventry from 10^th – 13^th September.
 
This year’s Festival programme was announced at a launch event held last night (Tuesday 25^th June), and this year’s events have been curated to highlight the region’s strength in digital technologies, smart cities and the future of energy and healthcare.
 
Cadent will be leading a number of events at the Festival, focussing on its role in helping to decarbonise heat and its work in providing cleaner fuels for transport. The local firm, who employ close to 5000 people, will also be running a series of talks for local sixth-formers and college students, focussing on future career opportunities in the STEM (Science, technology, engineering and mechanics) sector.
 
Announcing their sponsorship of the Festival, Cadent’s West Midlands Director, Kate Jones, said: “It is fantastic to see this year’s British Science Festival coming to the Coventry and Warwickshire. Our region has so much to offer in terms of its expertise in cutting edge science and technology, and this is a fantastic opportunity to highlight that.

The British Science Association’s Ivvet Modinou, Director of the British Science Festival, said: “This year’s programme has shaped up wonderfully and we’re really proud of the great selection of events on offer. Local stories are at the heart of the Festival, showcasing the world-class research that’s impacting on a national and international level.

The British Science Festival is one of Europe’s largest science festivals and regularly attracts hundreds of the UK’s top scientists and speakers to discuss the latest developments in science with the public. It will entertain an audience of non-specialist adults with a broad interest in science, delivering 100 specially curated events.
 
Highlights from the Festival include a ‘Festival carpool’, immersive music performances, a FarGo Village takeover and events featuring Konnie Huq, Jack Monroe, Alice Roberts, Claudia Hammond and the BBC’s The Sky at Night – to name a few.
 
Alongside Cadent, also sponsoring the Festival are Jaguar Land Rover and Lubrizol.
