  • Essential gas mains replacement work planned to start in Ealing this month
  • Public exhibition about the project will be held on Monday 22 July
  • New gas mains should last until dawn of the 22nd century
Cadent is inviting the public to find out more about a major project to replace ageing gas mains with tough new pipes which should last until the dawn of the 22nd century.

This project involves replacing ageing gas mains in South Ealing Road. Tough new pipes will be installed which will help ensure local homes, businesses and community facilities  keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating. It will also reduce the amount of unplanned work to repair ageing gas pipes and associated disruption.

The first section of work will start on Monday 29 July and to enable work to be carried out temporary four way traffic lights will be deployed on South Ealing Road at the junction of Popes Lane. This phase will last for approximately six weeks, coinciding with the school summer holidays, when the roads are generally quieter, thereby minimising disruption.

Work will then shift further north on South Ealing Road to the junction with Church Lane. To enable this phase of work to be carried out temporary two way traffic lights will need to be deployed and some side roads temporarily closed. This work is expected to be completed by December 2019.

All local shops and businesses will remain open as usual throughout the work.

Cadent is working closely with the London Borough of Ealing to plan the work and will do all it can to minimise the impact of the project and to complete work as promptly as possible.

The public exhibition is being held to enable people to meet the project team and find out more about the plans. It will take place at St Stephens House, 62 Little Ealing Lane, W5 4EA on Monday 22 July from 3pm to 7pm.

People can also find out more about the work by contacting the project’s Community Relations Team on 0800 389 8261 or info@communityrelations.co.uk for more information. For 24-hour operational enquiries people should call 0800 096 5678.

This work is part of Cadent’s ongoing investment across its network to replace and upgrade old gas mains with safer and more durable modern pipes.

Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
