- Essential gas mains replacement work scheduled to start in Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire later this month
- Work will take place High Street and Home Close and temporary traffic lights will need to be deployed to enable work to be carried out safely
- Project will help ensure local community keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies into the 22nd century
Work to replace ageing gas mains in Sharnbrook is due to start on Monday 20 January.
Engineers will replace 200m of ageing gas mains in High Street and Home Close in the project which is scheduled to last approximately four weeks.
The mains are being replaced as they are nearing the end of their operational life and there have been a number of gas leaks from them in recent times. The gas pipes which will replace them should last into the 22
nd century and help ensure the local community keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating. Replacing the pipes will also mean less disruption caused by leaks from old pipes.
Two way traffic lights – to be manned from 7am to 7pm each day - will be deployed to enable the work to be carried out safely.
To minimise inconvenience the new pipes will be inserted into the old gas mains which dramatically reduces the size of excavations needed and duration of the work. Work will be carried out in short sections to limit the scale of excavations at any one time.
There will be brief interruptions to the gas supply to properties when engineers disconnect them from the old gas pipes and transfer them to the new gas main. Engineers will contact those affected customers in advance of this work being carried out. People are reminded that they should ask to see official identification from anyone seeking to gain access to their property. All engineers working for Cadent carry official identification which should be inspected before granting admission to properties for more information visit https://cadentgas.com/help-advice/supporting-our-customers/checking-engineer-ids to verify an engineer’s identity call 0345 835 1111 - Option 2
Local shops and businesses will remain open throughout the project.
Cadent Network Supervisor Lee MacGibbon, said: “Replacing these ageing gas pipes will help ensure the local community keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies into the 22
nd century.
“We’ll do all we can to complete our work as soon as possible with minimal disruption to the public.”
