Locals are being invited to find out more about Cadent’s plans to help ensure Rochford stays connected to safe and reliable gas supplies into the 22
nd century.
A major project to replace ageing gas mains in Rochford is scheduled to get underway at the beginning of April. The essential work will see ageing gas mains which are nearing the end of their operational life replaced with tough new pipes which will help ensure locals stay connected to safe and reliable gas supplies until the Year 2100.
Disruption caused by gas leaks from old pipes will also be reduced.
Work is scheduled to be delivered over approximately 20-weeks from 6 April 2020 to the beginning of September 2020.
The work will be taking place in Southend Road between the junctions with Leicester Avenue and Rochford Reservoir and also in Sutton Road between the junctions with Ann Boleyn Roundabout and Warwick Drive. It is planned to deliver the work in sections consisting of ten main phases.
Old service pipes to properties in the area will also be replaced, which will involve a brief interruption to the gas supply to the properties involved. Engineers will contact those affected customers in advance of this work being carried out.
Local shops and businesses will remain open throughout the project.
Special consultation events will be held for both businesses and residents with dates as follows:
Consultation events for local businesses to be held on Tuesday 25th February and Wednesday 26 February 2020 from 9.30am to 6pm
Local businesses who want to find out more about the work are invited to attend either of these events which will be attended by members of the project team and will be held at Mark 1 Hire, Purdeys Industrial Estate, Purdeys Way, Rochford, SS4 1ND.
Consultation event for local residents on Friday 28 February 2020 to be held from 12pm to 8pm
Local residents who want to find out more about the work are invited to attend this event where they can meet members of the project team which will be held at the Anne Boleyn Pub in 93 Southend Road, Rochford, SS4 1HU.
Regular drop-in sessions
Once work gets underway both residents and businesses with questions about the work can attend regular drop-in sessions which will be held at the Anne Boleyn Pub every Tuesday between 12pm and 6pm from Tuesday 7 April 2020 for five weeks, and every Thursday between 9am and 2pm from Thursday 9 April 2020 for five weeks.
Project manager, Stuart Griffiths, said: “The new pipes we’ll be installing will be in service until around the Year 2100 helping ensure local people continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating, while also reducing the risk of disruption caused by leaks from ageing gas mains.
“We’ve worked closely with the local authority to ensure this essential work is delivered with as little disruption to the local community as possible.”
