in your area

■   Ageing gas mains to be replaced in Chatsworth Road, Hackney
■   Work will be suspended on Sundays to avoid impact to local Sunday Market
■   People can find out more at a public exhibition to be held on Monday 5 March

People are being invited to find out more about essential work to future-proof the gas mains network in Hackney.

The first phase of work to replace old large diameter gas mains with tough new pipes recently got underway in Chatsworth Road, Hackney, between Homerton Grove and Fletching Road.

Two-way traffic flows will be maintained using temporary traffic lights and suspending some parking bays.

To enable the second phase of the work to be completed safely, Brooksby’s Walk will need to be closed.

Details, dates and traffic management for this second phase are still being finalised, however it is anticipated that the second phase of the work involving the road closure will take place between May and July 2018.

Cadent is working closely with Hackney Council to ensure everything is done to minimise disruption to the local area. Throughout the work all local shops and businesses will remain open as normal.  No work will take place on Sundays, which will minimise disruption to the local Sunday Market

People are invited to attend a public exhibition where they can find out more about our plans and to meet the project team. This is being held at St Barnabas Church, Homerton High Street, E9 6DL on Monday 5 March 2018 between 4pm and 8pm.

Cadent Authorising Engineer Michael Morris said: “We’re doing all we can to deliver this essential work with as little disruption as possible.

“The project will deliver a real benefit to the local community by ensuring safe and reliable gas supplies are maintained to the area and also reducing the number of disruptive unplanned repair jobs required on ageing gas mains.”

He added: “I’d encourage anyone with questions about the work to come and meet us at the public exhibition or alternatively they can contact our Community Relations Team on  0800 389 8261 or info@communityrelations.co.uk.

This work is part of Cadent’s investment to replace and upgrade the gas mains in London with safer and more durable modern pipes. The programme will reduce the amount of unplanned work on our gas network and is essential to provide safe and reliable energy to the people in our communities running businesses, schools and homes.

Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
