A new home for asset protection - LinesearchbeforeUdig

safety

As of today (9 August 2021), we have officially moved our asset protection enquiry service to LinesearchbeforeUdig.

Any enquiries about carrying out works near our assets will now be managed through LinesearchbeforeUdig's easy, intuitive platform – which is used across the utilities sector to reduce the risk of electricity and gas assets being damaged.

Richard Broome, Managing Director at LSBUD, commented: “We’re thrilled to have Cadent on board. As we all know, the health and safety implications that come with striking a gas pipeline are incredibly serious, so through providing people with the location of all its underground pipes, Cadent has taken the right step to protect its infrastructure while enabling those working nearby to do so safely.

Steve Fraser, Cadent CEO, added: "Particularly during the challenges that we have all faced over the last 18 months, it is critical that we can ensure our customers and contractors are able to access our records remotely with an immediate response. This enables them to work safely and also protects our assets.

These customers are diverse and wide ranging across a wide section of industry from infrastructure building to domestic works. Through the use of the LSBUD system we look forward to helping them work safely during the continual increase in works across our operational area over the coming years."

Guidance for users

The Electricity and Gas Location Enquiry System (EAGLES) portal is no longer available. If you need to submit a new enquiry, you will need to register with LinesearchbeforeUdig, however existing enquiries will not be impacted by this change.

To receive detailed guidance and asset maps, simply create an enquiry within the LinesearchbeforeUdig platform. You will then be provided with an automated response, detailing your next steps and any further action we require to ensure safe working around our assets.

In some instances, your works may be found to affect both Cadent and National Grid gas assets. Where this is the case, you will receive separate responses from Cadent and National Grid via LinesearchbeforeUdig, informing you of your next steps.

Dig safely

Whenever carrying out excavation works, it is vital you stop, think and act. You could be digging close to a live gas asset, putting yourself and others at risk. Please ensure you take the time to assess the situation, and submit an enquiry to LinesearchbeforeUdig before you proceed. For more information and advice, please visit our Digging safely web page

Frequently asked questions

Just leave your enquiry with us, and we’ll be in touch regarding your next steps.
  • Do I have to submit my own enquiry direct to LinesearchbeforeUdig?
Yes, you will need to do so via the LinesearchbeforeUdig platform. If you have any issues doing so, please contact us at plantprotection@cadentgas.com or on 0800 688 588.

  • Will I have to submit separate enquiries if I think my work may affect multiple utilities?
No. This is one of the advantages of LinesearchbeforeUdig. Once you submit your enquiry, it will be circulated to all relevant utilities registered on the platform. Please note you will receive separate responses relating to different utilities, as each company has its own account with LinesearchbeforeUdig.
  • How quickly can I expect an initial response from the system?

You will receive an initial response instantly. However in some cases, we will need to carry out further investigations and this will require further information from you. It is essential we take all necessary precautions to protect our assets and keep you and the public safe. We can only carry out our investigations once we receive all required information. We will keep you informed of your next steps each step of the way.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
