Helping NHS at Tameside General Hospital

helping our community

For the second time in four months, the Cadent team in our North West Network has moved quick to support a local hospital as it expands and improves its essential facilities.

In April, in the early weeks of lockdown, our engineers moved a gas pipe that ran underneath land on which Tameside General Hospital wanted to build a new treatment centre.

And we’ve recently returned to the same hospital, to do a very similar job, this time moving a gas service pipe that was sited near to the proposed location for a big oxygen storage tank.

Realising the urgent need, as the hospital needs these facilities to support its response to Covid-19, Cadent fast-tracked the jobs – and has earned public praise from the hospital.

On Twitter, T&G Estates and Facilities thanked our team for ‘pulling out all the stops’ And, on LinkedIn, the hospital trust’s Capital Projects Manager Michelle Waddicor offered "huge thanks for the quick turnaround."

Mumtaz Patel, Head of Connections, North West, said: “When this job came in, we knew we had to turn it around as quickly as we could. I’m delighted the team rose to this challenge and it’s great to see such positive feedback from the customer.”

Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
