Essential gas mains replacement work due to start in Fairland Street in early 2018
■
Project carefully planned with preparations including a ground survey to ensure minimal inconvenience to local community
- Work will help ensure locals keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating
The New Year will see new gas pipes coming to the town of Wymondham in Norfolk.
Engineers have drawn up plans to replace ageing gas mains in Fairland Street with tough new pipes.
The first phase of work is due to start in Bridewell Street on Monday 8 January, a second phase of work will begin in the Fairland Street/Market Street area from Monday 22 January. In total the project is scheduled to last for approximately five weeks.
To enable the work to be completed safely and efficiently traffic management will be in place for the duration of the project. There will be no through traffic on Fairland Street from Avenue Road towards Market Street and vice versa. The one way systems on Bridewell Street and Market Street will be suspended, with temporary traffic lights deployed, enabling traffic to enter Fairland Street southbound. Exits will be made available using Friarscroft Lane or Fairland Hill. Traffic entering Fairland Street from Avenue Road will be able to use a diversion on Fairland Hill to exit.
Cadent Authorising Engineer Vince Doggett said: “We’ve carried out ground surveys and held discussions with the local authorities as part of our careful planning and preparation for this project to ensure we deliver it with as little impact as possible on the local area.”
A meeting about the planned work was also held with local representatives and residents.
Mr Doggett added: “The robust new gas main we’re installing will last for many decades and ensure local people continue to enjoy access to safe and reliable energy supplies.
Work will also involve the replacement of gas service pipes to some properties in the area. Cadent will liaise with these properties to arrange for the work to be done. The work will require a temporary disconnection of the gas supply to each property involved to enable the new pipe to be installed.
People are reminded that they should always ask to see official identification before letting engineers into their property. All Cadent engineers carry official identity cards which should be inspected before access is granted.
