▪ Near side lane, slip road and layby closures planned along the northbound side of the A12 between junction 29a and junction 30 near the Essex/Suffolk border
▪ Diversion route will be in place for the duration of the project
▪ Project will help ensure safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating are maintained
Motorists are being advised of major work that has been scheduled to be carried out along a section of one of East Anglia’s major routes the A12.
Investigation and remediation work need to be carried out on a section of gas pipeline to help ensure the region keeps on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating.
The gas pipeline is located close to the slip road and due to the high speed of traffic leaving the A12 the following closures need to be implemented to enable the work to be carried out safely and efficiently.
- Closure of a 900m stretch of the nearside lane of the A12 northbound at junction 29a between 9pm and 5am overnight between Sunday 2 April and Monday 3 April 2017 and 9pm on Friday 16 June and 5am on Saturday 17 June 2017.
- Closure of the laybys immediately before and after junction 29a during the above dates and times
- Closure of the slip road off the northbound A12 at junction 29a between 5am on Monday 3 April and 5am on Friday 16 June 2017
The following diversion will be in place for the duration of the project:
Traffic leave A12 at junction 30 (Stratford St Mary) and follow diversion via Upper Street, The Street, Lower Street and Gun Hill.
Karl Shipp, Network Supervisor Gas Pipelines, East Anglia, National Grid Gas Distribution, said: “This essential project will help ensure the pipeline keeps on supplying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating to the region.
“In order to do the work safely we need to close the slip road, which will also mean we have to implement two overnight closures of the nearside northbound carriageway, to set up and take down the slip road closure.”
He added: “We’ve planned this project in close discussion with the local authorities and are doing all we can to minimise any inconvenience such as carrying out the A12 closures at quiet overnight periods.”
