Mains attraction: Wath residents invited to drop in and learn more about summer gas pipe upgrade

 

• Residents’ drop-in event for Doncaster Road gas pipe revamp
• Ageing gas main to be replaced with new pipe over the summer
• Work will keep gas flowing to local homes until the end of the century

Wath-upon-Dearne residents are being invited to find out about a major overhaul of the gas mains in Doncaster Road this summer.

Local gas network Cadent is holding an information event this Monday (17 July) at Wath Victoria School, Sandymount Road Wath-upon-Dearne, from 3.30pm to 7pm.

Cadent will be renewing more than a kilometre of medium pressure gas pipe some 60cms in diameter in Doncaster Road. The existing ageing gas main will be replaced with a tough, hardwearing new plastic pipe that will last at least 80 years.

Work starts on 26 July and is due to finish on 1 September.

To keep engineers and road-users safe during the work Doncaster Road will be closed to through traffic from A633 Sandygate to Manvers Roundabout. Access will be maintained for homes and businesses in Doncaster Road.

Paul Martin, Authorising Engineer for Cadent, said: “Our job is to keep gas supplies flowing. We’re installing new gas pipes so people can continue to use gas to cook their meals and heat their homes for decades to come.

“It is important that we replace this gas main as it has had several leaks, resulting in traffic disruption for local people. We’ve scheduled this work for the school summer holidays to reduce any inconvenience and once the new pipe is in the ground it will last for many years.”
