Cadent staff go wild to help save endangered animals

• 'Dress-down' day brings out the animal in workers
• Matching owners and pets in picture competition
• £460 raised for international and local charities

Leicestershire staff at Britain’s biggest gas network - Cadent - went wild at work, and made a roaring success of helping some of the world’s most endangered animals.

Customer Centre staff at Cadent’s offices in Hinckley and Leicester held a “Wear it Wild Day” to raise £460 for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Nuneaton and Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary.

They paid £1 to dress as their favourite animal, with a prize for the best one, and there was face-painting, cakes and games.

The most dangerous game, however, was matching pets to their owners in a special picture competition.

Cadent’s Sarah Rowley, who helped organise the fundraiser, said: “Matching pets and owners was great fun, and luckily everyone had a tremendous sense of humour. We’re a nation of animal lovers, and we were keen to support not only a world-wide charity like the WWF, but also something closer to home.”

The WWF is the world’s leading independent conservation organisation. It is fighting to save elephants, lions, tigers and rhinos from extinction.

Meanwhile, nearer to home, the Nuneaton and Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary rescues sick, injured and abandoned birds and animals. It needs nearly £500 a week to keep going.
