Essential work that will help ensure Wootton residents keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies is expected to begin next month.

Ageing metal gas mains are to be replaced with tough new pipes which should last for many years.

It’s planned to start the work in early May 2017 and it is currently estimated that the project will take nine weeks to complete.

Engineers will be replacing gas mains in the following roads:

Lorraine Road, Farrell Road, Hoo Close, Emerton Way, Cannons Close, Dimmock Road and Studley Road

Work will also involve replacing service pipes to properties. Those residents affected will be contacted to arrange this work.

Dilbir Chana National Grid Authorising Engineer said: “It’s essential that we do this work as it will help ensure people in Wootton keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating.”

He added: “The project has been planned in close discussion with the local authorities and we’ll do all we can to deliver the work with as little disruption to people as possible.”

Residents are reminded they should ask to see official identification from any engineers seeking access to their properties. All project engineers carry official identity cards which people should ask to see before letting them in.

Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
