▪       Wacky hat day raises money for brain tumour charity

▪       Fun loving team brimming with ideas

▪       Day capped off with tea served by team leaders

It’s hats off to a team of fun loving employees from National Grid Gas Distribution who raised £400 for charity today (Thursday 13 April).

The Hinckley staff were brimming with novelty ways to look natty in a hat to celebrate Wear A Hat Day. And, they all paid a £1 to wear their creations at work.

To cap it all, team leaders took over a special tea trolley for the event, serving refreshing drinks throughout the day.

The headwear ranged from a simple flat cap to some highly decorated works of art that could grace Ladies Day at Ascot.

The money will help Brain Tumour Research reach its target of raising £7 million a year.

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, but just one per cent of the national spend on cancer research is directed towards the disease.

Tanya Hutchinson, a National Grid Gas Distribution organiser, said: “You could say everyone threw their hat into the ring to help this very worthwhile charity. People came up with some very original ideas. There was a great display of Easter bonnets. It’s important to have fun at work, and it’s just as important to help others less fortunate. We always try to combine the two."

This press release relates to Cadent work.  It does not have Cadent branding on it, due to this press release being published prior to 1st May 2017, when this gas distribution business was part of National Grid’s group of businesses.

Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
