▪ Work will keep gas flowing in Sudbury for the rest of the century
▪ Road closure necessary
Work is underway on a gas mains upgrade in Sudbury to keep gas flowing to homes and businesses until the end of the century.
In a six-week project National Grid will be renewing gas mains in a section of Waldingfield Road. Work started today (Thursday 21July) and is due to be completed by the beginning of September.
To enable this essential work to be carried out safely traffic management measures will be in place. This will involve two-way temporary traffic lights between 65 Waldingfield Road and the junction of Lansdowne Road. It will also be necessary to close Waldingfield Road between house numbers 11 and 65 from Monday 8 August to Friday 18 August.
Access to homes and businesses will be maintained. A diversion route will be in place.
National Grid Authorising Engineer Vince Doggett said: “National Grid's job is to connect people to the energy they use. This is a vital project to ensure that the residents and businesses in Sudbury continue to enjoy a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.
“We appreciate that this is a main road in Sudbury and we will make every effort to minimise any inconvenience caused by our work. We have planned this project during the school summer holidays to reduce the impact on traffic. We would like to thank people for their patience and co-operation.”
Gas engineers may need access to homes and businesses to replace service pipes (the pipes that take gas from the main in the road to individual properties). This work will involve temporarily interrupting the gas supply and anyone who is affected will be notified beforehand.
All National Grid engineers carry official identity cards, which people should ask to see before allowing them on their property.
