- Employees huff and puff to raise record sum
- Sports quiz and games enjoyed by hundreds
A titanic soccer clash between National Grid gas engineers and customer services staff at Leicester’s Riverside Ground has help net a record sum for Sport Relief.
Cheered on by family, friends, colleagues and senior managers, gas engineers and support staff from the East Midlands Operations team took on Customer Operations colleagues from National Grid’s Hinckley offices.
Although the Operations team triumphed in a hard-fought game, everyone proved a winner when the fixture helped to raise more than £3,000 – the highest total so far over the years National Grid has been supporting the charity.
The coffers were swelled further, as staff at the company’s Hinckley and Leicester sites huffed and puffed their way through various sporting challenges.
For the energetic there was table tennis, badminton, basketball and volleyball. Others donned their favourite sports strips, leisurely pursued a sports quiz, a cake bake-off, a pool competition, and magnetic darts.
Sally Clay, National Grid organiser said: “What a tremendous effort from everyone. We always put everything into our fund raising, but on this occasion we found a little extra to make it special. Everyone was a winner as we helped others less fortunate.”
Hundreds of charities in the UK and around the world are helped by Sport Relief.
This year more than £57 million has been raised.
