• National Grid and Thames Water replacing local mains over next 12 months
• Utilities will be working together to limit disruption
• Information day to be held on Wednesday 29 July at the O2 Centre
National Grid is working with Thames Water to ensure that vital work to replace local infrastructure in Camden causes minimal disruption to residents and road users.
Over the next twelve months National Grid will be replacing ageing gas mains in Finchley Road. The tough new pipes will help ensure local residents continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies for decades to come. At the same time Thames Water will be replacing its water mains in the road.
National Grid’s work is due to begin in early August and will initially take place between Frognal Lane and the O2 Centre on Finchley Road. Traffic management measures will need to be implemented over the 12 months. These will include the removal of a road island to facilitate the implementation of a Contraflow system and the closure of bus lanes along with parking and loading bays.
Local businesses may also experience restricted access due to the work.
To carry out some of the work engineers will require access to some properties on Finchley Road and on occasions the gas supply around the area will be briefly affected. Affected properties will be notified in advance and people are reminded that they should ask to see official identification from anyone trying to gain access to their property.
National Grid and Thames Water will be holding an information day from 3pm to 8pm on Wednesday 29 July at the O2 Centre.
National Grid Area Manager Pat Nathan said: “The project on Finchley Road is one of the biggest we will be involved with in London this year. “
“Carrying out our work alongside Thames Water means roads won’t need to be dug up twice.”
He added: “This work will help ensure local people continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating.
“We’re sorry for any disruption our vital work may cause and we’ll continue to do all we can to minimise any disruption including working extended hours where required.”
