This press release relates to Cadent work. It does not have Cadent branding on it, due to this press release being published prior to 1st May 2017, when this gas distribution business was part of National Grid’s group of businesses.
During the year, the Wolverhampton based company, an alliance between National Grid and utilities company Morgan Est, has renewed more than 300 kilometres of old metal gas pipes across the West Midlands and replaced them with new plastic pipe. All the off-cuts of plastic pipe have been collected and sold for recycling, raising more than £5000 which will be distributed to good causes.
First recipient was Penn Hall School in Wolverhampton. The school, a community special school catering for children aged from three to 18, was presented with a cheque for £1,700. The cash will be used to buy a new wheelchair for its younger pupils.
Speaking on behalf of the Gas Alliance John Wright said: 'Recycling the off-cuts from the plastic pipe is a winner all round. We are raising money for local charities and reducing the amount of scrap we send to landfill. When Penn Hall School asked us if we could help them buy a new wheelchair we were delighted to be able to help.'
Other charities will be nominated by the Alliance's staff to receive a donation from this year's recycling fund.
