- Cadent announces essential gas mains replacement project for London Road, West Thurrock
- Phased project will help ensure local people keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies
- Public invited to find out more at public exhibition on March 6
People are being invited to attend a public exhibition to find out more about a major project to replace ageing gas mains in London Road, West Thurrock.
Cadent has announced a five-year plan to replace ageing large diameter gas mains in West Thurrock. The essential work will help ensure local people remain connected to safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating.
The old pipes will be replaced with tough, highly durable new gas mains which will help ensure local homes, businesses and community facilities remain connected to safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating. Due to the size and position of the mains being replaced engineers will need to dig open trenches to install the new mains. The mains are located deep below the ground and the concrete the engineers will have to dig through is reinforced having been fortified to withstand aerial bombardment by the Luftwaffe in World War Two. Therefore digging will take longer than usual.
Phase one of the project will involve replacing gas mains in London Road between the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge (A282) and Motherwell Way. To enable work to be carried out safely London Road will be closed to eastbound traffic between Motherwell Way and Weston Avenue. A diversion will be in place from St Clements Way for traffic to use Oliver Road. Work will be carried out overnight until the junction of St Clements Way is reached. Cadent will also carry out essential work on the other side of the bridge. It’s planned to carry out phase one of the project between May and October 2018.
Local shops and businesses will remain open as usual.
People are invited to come and find out more about the work and meet the project team at a public exhibition at Cowdray Hall, 560 London Road, West Thurrock, RM20 3BJ on Tuesday 6 March 2018 between 4pm and 8pm.
Cadent Authorising Engineer Michael Morris said: “We’re working closely with Thurrock Council to ensure we deliver this essential work with as little disruption as possible.”
“We’ll be phasing the work and also completing work at different locations in the same area at the same time as part of our efforts to reduce inconvenience.”
He added: “Our work will help ensure local people stay connected to safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating and also cut the number of disruptive unplanned repair jobs required on ageing gas mains.”
“I’d encourage people with questions about the project to come and meet us at the public exhibition and they can also contact our Community Relations Team by phone or email.”
