- Elf-help culture envelops Cadent ahead as employees celebrate Elf Day as part of partnership with Alzheimer’s Society
- Activities included taking ‘Elfie-Selfies’ and an ‘Elf Olympics’
- Cadent set bauble rolling with a £10,000 donation
In folklore they have helped Father Christmas spread yuletide cheer since the 19
th century but more recent times have seen elves spearheading festive fundraising efforts at Britain’s biggest gas network, Cadent.
This week Cadent employees joined in with the Alzheimer’s Society’s annual Elf Day for the second year running.
Ahead of the event Cadent helped get the festive fundraising bauble rolling with a £10,000 donation to the Alzheimer’s Society, which has been Cadent’s official charity since the company was launched in 2017.
Across the company employees were encouraged to dress as elves and pose for ‘Elfie-Selfies’. They were also encouraged to sign up for the Pennies from Heaven payroll giving and give charitable donations in lieu of sending Christmas cards.
At the firm’s Coventry office, students from Exhall Grange School, who are spending a year with Cadent as part of the company’s award-winning supported internship scheme, EmployAbility, helped swell the coffers, raffling a giant teddy bear and manning a Christmas decorations stall. A special Elfie Selfie Station enabled suitably attired employees to snap and share fun photos of the occasion.
Meanwhile over at the firm’s Hinckley premises staff also joined in with the fundraising fun.
The fundraising frolics efforts hauled in nearly £1100, Cadent has set itself a target of raising £100,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society.
In addition to its fundraising efforts Cadent has also pledged to become a dementia friendly utility and in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society it has been delivering Dementia Friends training sessions to staff at all levels. This helps ensure that all aspects of Cadent’s operations help support both those with dementia and those caring for someone who has dementia, especially poignant over the winter period which sees increasing calls from the public to Cadent.
Those with dementia may also be able to enjoy Christmas dinner at home thanks to Cadent’s ongoing provision of free lockable cooker valves. These enable carers to isolate the gas supply to cookers when they are not there.
Cadent Social Responsibility Specialist, Laura Barnes explained: “Dementia is a year round challenge.
“However at Christmas – a time of the year associated with celebrations and happy memories – it can be especially hard.”
She added: “With the colder weather it’s a very busy time for Cadent operationally and with engineers out and about responding to calls they may come into contact with people affected by dementia.
“Our ongoing partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society, participation in Elf Day, provision of lockable cooker valves and Dementia Friends training will hopefully go some way to ensure that those affected by Alzheimer’s enjoy a little Christmas cheer too.”
