Start date: 5 July 2021
Phase 1-3 completed

Update: 22 October 2021

Following the successful completion of the first 3 phases, we are now ready to begin phase 4 of the works.

Phase 4 of the works will take place on the farmland from the side of Babraham Road to opposite the ABCAM building (on the Addenbrookes Hospital site). Some disruption to the cycle route may occur. This will last for approximately 12 weeks.

Your gas supply will not be affected.

Traffic management

Diversions will be signposted, and you find regular updates throughout the duration of the project.

Access to your property will be maintained throughout the works.

What you need to know

On the 5 July we began a 22-week project to improve the gas supply in your area. Due to the development of new houses, there is an increased demand on the gas network. We are inserting a new pipe to supply more gas to the area. This is to ensure everyone can continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies to heat homes and power businesses for decades to come.

What impact will our work have?

To deliver our work safely and securely we will be using traffic management to manage the traffic flow in the area. This will require temporary road closures with restricted vehicle access; diversions will be clearly signposted. We are continuing to work with Cambridgeshire Council to prevent any avoidable disruption.

Will the work impact gas supplies in the area?

Your gas supply and access to your property will not be affected.

How are we going to deliver our work?

Due to the nature of the work involved, we have planned to deliver it in a number of phases to maximise efficiency and minimise disruption.

Phase 1 of the works began in the carriageway on Babraham Road, and we installed 2-way lights with pedestrian crossing. This lasted for approximately 5 weeks.

Phase 2 of the works has seen 4-way lights on Babraham Road, Knightly Avenue, Hills Road and Worts’ Causeway, lasting for approximately 2 weeks.

Phase 3 Worts’ Causeway will be closed for appoximately 3 weeks. Access for residents only.

Phase 4 of the works will take place on the farmland from the side of Babraham Road to opposite the ABCAM building (on the Addenbrookes Hospital site). Some disruption to the cycle route may occur. This will last for approximately 12 weeks.

Other works

During these works, Ethical Power Connections will be establishing a sustainable and renewable 11kV connection to supply Addenbrookes Hospital on behalf of Bouygues E&S and Cambridgeshire County Council, further details for the full extent will follow shortly on this scheme.

Ethical Power Connections will be utilising Cadent Gas TM arrangements in collaboration with Cadent and GCP (who are delivering their own cycling and signal upgrade) across the Worts Causeway junction in particular and along the same timescales to best minimise disruption in the general area.

This renewable energy connection will run between the Babraham Road Park & Ride site and connect at Addenbrookes Hospital Substation. Further details will be supplied on where and when this will be occurring directly from Cambridgeshire County Council.
