We have a responsibility to carry out essential checks on the gas pipes in multi-occupancy buildings. This means to carry out the checks we need access to the pipes in your home from time to time.

Why does the survey have to be done?

We operate the gas mains and service gas pipes in your area and within buildings up to and including the valve prior to the gas meters. As part of our asset management programme we need to carry out a visual condition survey of our pipes in your home.

We must carry out the surveys even if there are no problems with your gas supply. If you don’t use gas, we may still need access as the pipes in your home might supply gas to other residents in your building.

Who will do the survey?

It will be carried out by one of our specialist engineers.  All Cadent engineers carry an identity card and it’s important that you ask to see this before letting them into your home.

How long will the survey take?

The survey can take a few hours to complete as we’ll need to work in different parts of your building. However we should only be in your home for a short period of time. Please keep this in mind when arranging your appointment.

What happens after the survey has been done?

We will determine whether any repair work is needed. But don’t worry, if we do need to do some work we won’t charge you for it as this is part of our inspection process. If we need to come back to carry out the repair we’ll let you know in plenty of time.

We really appreciate your support in allowing us access to your home.
