Safely and efficiently delivering gas to 11 million homes and businesses across the UK, the country couldn’t function without us. Which makes your work invaluable. That said, you’ll also enjoy a competitive salary of £16,305 that increases each year of your apprenticeship, fully expensed travel and accommodation, 33 days’ holiday (inclusive of 8 bank holidays), a pension scheme, £200 towards driving lessons and even more allowances if you live in London.

Repair Support

As part of our talented Repair Support team, you’ll keep the nation safe. During the two year programme, you'll partner with an expert in the field, you’ll quickly learn the right ways to keep the energy flowing by responding to gas escapes, day or night. Working outdoors on gas mains and liaising with the public, you’ll be the friendly face of Cadent in the community. It’s your chance to develop new skills, gain experience and use the specialist equipment needed to build a strong future in engineering.

Emergency Response

Our Emergency Response apprentices become the future gas experts. After the two year programme being fully trained by experienced professionals, you’ll be qualified to act as the first responder to gas escapes across the network. It’s an exciting role, as every day is different and you’ll know that your work has a vital part to play in keeping our customers safe and supplied with the gas they need round the clock. Often working out of hours and alone (with support on hand if you need it), you can look forward to a long, satisfying career.

Operate and Maintain

As a Pressure, Control & Storage apprentice in our Operate & Maintain team, you’ll make a big impact on millions of people – without them even knowing about it. Learning new skills all the time, you’ll make sure our network is well maintained, safe and working perfectly over the course of 3 years. Our gas network reaches every corner of the UK. That’s a lot of pipework, and takes a lot of specialist equipment to keep in top condition.

What to expect:

At Cadent, our apprentices feel well looked after – even before they join. To make sure you feel welcomed from your very first step, here’s what you can expect during the recruitment process: 

Apply Online

Take your first step towards working at Cadent, view, search and apply for current vacancies and complete our online application form.

Application Review

We’ll reply straight away so that you know we’ve received your application. Following this, your application will be reviewed by the Resourcing Team.

Video Interview

If you have the right skills, knowledge and attributes we’ve asked for, you’ll progress to the second stage of our recruitment process – an online assessment.

Video Interview

If you’ve got this far, you’re already half way through our recruitment process! Now you’ve passed the online assessment, we'd like to understand more about you and why you are interested in working at Cadent. You’ll be asked to take part in a video interview. 

Assessment Day

Once you’ve wowed us with your video interview, we’d love to meet you in person. You’ll be invited to take part in an assessment centre.  You’ll get the chance to meet like-minded Graduates, teams from across the business and get a really good feel for what it’s like to work at Cadent.


We appreciate you’ll be eager to find out if you’ve been successful following the assessment centre so we aim to get back to you as quick as we can. Spaces are limited, not everyone will be successful but we’ll give you feedback if you aren’t made an offer to join us.

Offer & On-board

This is where, if successful, you’ll be made an offer to join one of our Graduate programmes.  A member of our recruitment team will talk you through your offer details and the next steps including what to expect during the on-boarding process.
