At Cadent, we get gas to where it needs to be. And as the nation’s trusted energy network, we’ve the scope to get ambitious engineering apprentices where they want to be too. Engineering experience isn’t necessary. If you have talent, potential and plenty of drive, there’ll be no stopping you. From full training and early responsibility, to the chance to gain a qualification, new experiences and sought-after skills, it’s all here. If you can’t wait to get your career started, join an industry leader that knows how to keep your energy flowing.

Safely and efficiently delivering gas to 11 million homes and businesses across the UK, the country couldn’t function without us. Which makes your work invaluable. That said, you’ll also enjoy a competitive salary of £16,305 that increases each year of your apprenticeship, fully expensed travel and accommodation, 33 days’ holiday (inclusive of 8 bank holidays), a pension scheme, £200 towards driving lessons and even more allowances if you live in London.

So, when we say it’s a rewarding career, we mean it. Learning from some of the brightest engineering minds on a variety of interesting challenges, you’ll be in charge of your own day – as well as your destiny. Our two & three-year apprenticeship schemes are a springboard. And will fly by. That’s why we want engineering apprentices who’ll get stuck in. You’ll be incredibly proud of all you achieve – and equipped to secure a bright future with us afterwards.

It’s your chance to develop new skills, gain experience and use the specialist equipment needed to build a strong future in engineering.

Emergency Response

Our Emergency Response apprentices become the future gas experts. After being fully trained by experienced professionals, you’ll be qualified to act as the first responder to gas escapes across the network. It’s an exciting role, as every day is different and you’ll know that your work has a vital part to play in keeping our customers safe and supplied with the gas they need round the clock. Often working out of hours and alone (with support on hand if you need it), you can look forward to a long, satisfying career.

Operate and Maintain

As an Electrical & Instrumentation apprentice in our Operate & Maintain team, you’ll make a big impact on millions of people – without them even knowing about it. Learning new skills all the time, you’ll make sure our network is well maintained, safe and working perfectly. Our gas network reaches every corner of the UK. That’s a lot of pipework, and takes a lot of specialist equipment to keep in top condition.  Over the course of 4 years, we’ll also train you in everything from cable testing through to the maintenance of our control systems and everything in between!

Recruitment process

What to expect:

At Cadent, our apprentices feel well looked after – even before they join. To make sure you feel welcomed from your very first step, here’s what you can expect during the recruitment process:

Apply Online

No matter how you find us, you’ll need to apply through this careers site using the search and apply button below.

Application Review

Once you apply, we'll respond straight away so that you know we have your details. We’ll then go through your application more thoroughly as soon as we can.

Video Interview

Once your assessments are complete, we’d love to get to know you a little better and hear why you would like to join us. We’ll be in touch to arrange this.

Assessment Day

If you impress us with your video interview (and hopefully are impressed by us), you’ll be invited to meet us in person at an assessment day. It’s our chance to get to know you better and see how you’d fit into the team. It sounds scarier than it is! Our recruitment team will give you all the advice and guidance on how to prepare for the day and there will be apprentices throughout the process to mentor you.

Shortly afterwards, we’ll let you know if you’ve been offered a place on an apprenticeship programme. We’ll talk you through the details so you can make an informed decision.

Unfortunately, limited apprenticeship spaces mean not everyone is successful. However, we’ll offer feedback either way, to hopefully help you secure your perfect job.

Sign On The Dotted Line...

Now comes the paperwork! It’ll involve things like sending you a formal offer of employment, checking your right to work in the UK, taking references and confirming your grades.
