Moving your gas pipe or meter

If you live in the North West, West Midlands, East Midlands, South Yorkshire, East of England or North London and need to alter or make changes of your gas supply and/or change the position of your gas meter, we're here to help. 
 
Gas alterations can be required for a number of reasons, from relocating a gas meter to increasing or reducing the supply or moving pipework to accomodate renovations or alterations. We're keen to find out more about your plans and to help make them happen as quickly and easily as possible.

Get started

Here are the steps that will take you through the alterations process. Don't worry, we’ll stay in touch along the way to make sure it's going smoothly and you’re happy with everything.
  • Apply

    Either fill in our online application form, or give us a call and we'll work through your application with you.

  • Initial preparation

    You may need to discuss your alteration plans with your existing supplier who will advise if you need to change your meter. You will also need to let us know if you are digging your own excavations.

  • Receive quote and make payment

    You will have up to 90 days to send in your signed acceptance and pay for the works. When we receive your acceptance, we will contact you to agree the start date.

  • Site survey

    We'll arrange to meet you on-site to discuss your requirements and the options that might be available.

  • Planning works

    On average, it takes 6-8 weeks from payment to carry out your works.

  • Site preparation

    We will give you a call the week before works are due to start to make sure everything is ready.

  • Works complete

    Once we're finished, we'll re-turf, re-seed any grassed areas and replant any flower beds if we've disturbed them. You will need to undertake any internal decorative works.

How soon can you move the gas pipe or meter?

We're always working to reduce our lead times and to get your alterations completed as soon as possible. Once you’ve accepted our quote and paid for the service our delivery team will begin planning your work, and works will normally be completed in around 6-8 weeks.

We will always try to offer the earliest date available. If local traffic management or other highway restrictions apply in your area, we will let you know as this may increase the lead time before we can start work.

Information you'll need

Before you apply for a quote, please make sure you have the following information to hand:

  • Full address of the property where the work is needed.
  • Property owner's full name and telephone number.
  • Distance of external pipework needed to move the gas meter from its current position to its new position.
  • Distance of internal pipework needed to reconnect the gas boiler to the gas meter's new position (if you wish for us to reconnect the gas meter for you).
  • Ideally we will also need the layout plans for any on-site construction works to ensure we put things in the right location.
