An essential scheme to replace ageing gas mains with tough new pipes is entering its second phases – two weeks ahead of schedule.
Earlier this summer engineers began the work which will help ensure the local community keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies.
The first phase of the project has been completed successfully with the road closure which was implemented to enable it now lifted.
The second phase of the work begins today (Tuesday 30 August) and a new road closure will be in place running from the A127 Junction of The Fairway down to Moor Park Gardens. It will be in place for the remainder of the work which is scheduled for completion in late November 2016.
Side roads within this section will be closed at the junction of The Fairway. Westbound traffic will continue to have access to the Fairway from the A127 however eastbound traffic on the A127 and Progress Road will not be able to access the Fairway.
Signed diversions are in place and access to properties will continue to be maintained throughout the work. Moor Park Gardens will continue to remain open throughout the project and it has been agreed that it will be used as the diversion route for buses
Local businesses will also continue to remain open as usual.
Project Engineer Paul Illingworth said: “Our work is progressing well and is currently ahead of schedule.
“We discussed and agreed the work with the local authority and we’ll continue to do all we can to deliver the work with as little disruption as possible.”
He added: “I’d like to thank people for their patience and understanding while we carry out this essential work. The project will help ensure local people keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating.”
