A football tournament, Zumba dancing, live music, rock climbing, archery, a tea dance, a children's entertainer and funfair helped make National Grid's fun event yesterday a day to remember.
More than 1,000 local residents and National Grid staff got together at Hinckley United Football Club to have fun in the sun. People of all ages turned out to support the day, which was organised by National Grid - a major local employer - and was designed to bring the community together. The Mayor of Hinckley, Councillor Linda Hodgkins opened the event.
While archery, rock climbing and face painting were popular with younger visitors, their parents enjoyed the Robbie Williams and ABBA Tribute Bands, and grandparents turned back the clock to the era of tea dances with popular band JCC performing.
Six sides took part in the football tournament and the Hinckley Fire brigade lifted the winning trophy presented by Head of Customer Operations for National Grid, Ann Marie Ward.
The day raised £1,700 for National Grid's chosen charities; LOROS, Leicestershire Cares, Special Olympics Great Britain and The David Smith Cancer Treatment Fund (a National Grid employee).
National Grid organiser Sally Clay said: "It was a fantastic day and we had wonderful weather. We're delighted that the event was so successful. It was very popular with visitors of all ages- everybody loved it. We have a long tradition of volunteering and actively supporting local charities which was what the event was all about.
The community Fun Day is set to become an annual event. Sally and her team of 10 volunteers will soon be thinking about next year's event and intend to notch up a successful hat trick!
