- Employees Cadent volunteers spread festive cheer at Christmastime
- Crack squad of gift wrappers lend a hand to Coventry Cyrenians
- 350 presents for the city’s homeless wrapped and ready to be delivered
Santa traditionally has his elves to assist him at his busiest time of the year but it was employees from Coventry-based gas network Cadent who took on gift-wrapping duties – this time for the city’s most vulnerable people.
Armed with sellotape and scissors, a crack squad of volunteers from Cadent’s Holbrooks offices and beyond descended on local charity the Coventry Cyrenians. The five-strong team quickly got to work, wrapping more than 350 Christmas gifts destined for the city’s homeless people in just one day.
The team also lent a hand packing food boxes.
Cadent volunteer Phil Burrows said: “We were delighted to help. It’s nice to think that in some small way we are helping those most in need to share in the joy of Christmas.”
The Coventry Cyrenians (
www.coventrycyrenians.co.uk) work with homeless and vulnerably housed people in Coventry and Warwickshire, providing individualised support to promote and enhance the life chances of people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The charity provides more supported accommodation for homeless people in Coventry than any other organisation.
Cadent Social Responsibility Specialist Laura Barnes said: “Throughout the year we encourage our employees to volunteer and help out the communities and neighbourhoods which they serve, when they can. I’m delighted that Cadent volunteers have been able to help spread a little Christmas cheer by helping out this very worthy local cause.”
Earlier this year, Cadent announced details of its new community initiatives which focus on engaging and volunteering with the communities it serves. For more on Cadent’s CSR programme visit
