Our Social Purpose: Making things Easier, Fairer and Greener

By always acting responsibly and working closely with customers and stakeholders, we aim to build trust and deliver social value in the way we operate. Through our social purpose ambitions, we want to make a real, sustainable difference to our communities in a fair and inclusive manner.

Our purpose is to keep people warm while protecting the planet by making things ‘easier, fairer and greener’ for those living and working in our networks. By providing Easier Warmth, we can ensure everyone has access to secure and affordable heating now and in the future. Creating Fairer Opportunities allows us to boost social mobility and ensure we are creating an inclusive culture with a diverse workforce within our own business, supply chain and the communities we serve. Our commitment to developing a Greener Society enables us to lead the way in the decarbonisation of the energy industry, working towards a
thriving, net zero future.

Through our Charitable Partnership with Emmaus, our first-class Volunteering scheme and our
employee Matched Giving allowance, we support our colleagues in delivering these ambitions
and contributing positively to our communities.

Charity Partnership:

In January 2022, we launched our new charity partnership with Emmaus. Emmaus help people to work their way out of homelessness, providing meaningful work, training, support and a stable home for as long as someone needs it.

We aim to work closely with Emmaus to raise awareness of the key issues faced by those experiencing homelessness, providing vital donations and valuable expertise to help the people supported by the charity to live a sustainable life.

Volunteering:

Our colleagues are passionate about helping their local communities to thrive through volunteering their time and skills. We have partnered with Neighbourly to create an online, interactive platform that provides an accessible and inclusive range of Volunteering opportunities linked to our aims of making things ‘easier, fairer and greener’.

Our colleagues are provided with two days of paid Volunteering leave per financial year and by March 2026, we aim to have donated over 3,000 volunteering days to local good causes.

Matched Giving:

In addition to donating to our Charity Partner, we also support colleagues with personal charitable fundraising and donations through our Matched Giving scheme. For all fundraising activities, we provide Matched Giving of up to £400 per financial year, for any UK registered charity. The extra support we provide allows the money raised by our colleagues go even further, boosting their efforts to the causes and charitable organisations that matter most to them.

Our matched giving scheme was a finalist in the: ‘Employee engagement initiative of the year’ at the Business Charity Awards 2021.
