▪ Three sets of road works to be done under single road closure
▪ One-way road closure in Ashby Road extended until Tuesday
National Grid is set to team up with Staffordshire County Council and South Staffordshire Water in Burton-upon-Trent this weekend in a bid to cut road works disruption for local people.
The organisations are aiming to carry out three sets of roadworks at the same time, under the same road closure in Ashby Road.
Gas network company National Grid has had to extend its existing one-way road closure until early next week while it finishes the final leg of an essential six-week gas mains upgrade project.
After talks with the County Council, National Grid will be packing in a road repair on behalf of the Council as well. And now South Staffordshire Water is planning to join in, carrying out vital water pipe maintenance at the same time.
National Grid Authorising Engineer Paul Patrick said: “Owing to technical difficulties earlier in the project we’ve had to extend the one-way road closure. But by carrying out other repairs at the same time we aim to reduce future disruption to the public.
“We appreciate this is a main route into Burton-upon-Trent and we would like to thank the local community and motorists for bearing with us while we complete this work. This project will ensure we can continue to provide safe and reliable gas supplies to businesses and residents for decades to come.”
National Grid is renewing more than 700 metres of gas pipes. The existing iron mains are being replaced with tough, hardwearing new plastic pipes that will last for at least 80 years.
The current lane closure is on the eastbound side of Ashby Road, between its junctions with the A444 Stapenhill Road and High Bank Road. The lane closure is expected to remain in place until Tuesday evening. Westbound traffic is not affected by the work.
