• Ageing gas mains in Castle Rising Road, South Wooton, to be replaced with tough new pipes in ten week project starting in mid-January 2016
• Temporary lane closures and traffic management will be needed to ensure work can be carried out safely and efficiently
• Work will help ensure local community keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating
The New Year will see new gas mains coming to Castle Rising Road, South Wooton, King’s Lynn.
Existing ageing metal gas mains which have served local residents for many years are nearing the end of their operational life and need to be replaced to help ensure local residents keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies.
The work in Castle Rising Road is due to begin on Monday 16 January outside the Deers Leap pub and is scheduled to wrap up at the junction with Common Lane in late March 2017.
To ensure the work can be carried out safely and efficiently temporary lane closures will be implemented in Low Road, Grimston Road, Castle Rising Road and Wooton Road.
Castle Rising Road will also be closed at the junction with Grimston Road.
Temporary three and four way traffic lights will also be used to manage traffic flows.
Engineers may also need to carry out work at evenings, early mornings and weekends.
To keep disruption to a minimum the new pipes will be inserted into the old gas mains wherever possible which reduces the need for digging and minimises congestion.
Graham Huggett, Project Engineer said: “This work will help ensure that local residents keep on having a safe and reliable gas supply to heat their homes and cook their food.
“We’ve worked closely with the local authority to plan the project and have done all we can to keep disruption to a minimum.”
