• Essential work to replace old metal mains with modern plastic pipes
• Work starts on Monday 6 June for 20 weeks
• Engineers working seven days a week to complete the project quickly
National Grid engineers start work on Monday 6 June on a project to replace a kilometre of gas mains on Burrows Hill in Northwich between the industrial estate and Beech Road.
The company is replacing metal mains which are nearing the end of their useful life with modern plastic pipes which are designed to last at least 80 years once they are buried in the ground. This will make sure homes, schools and businesses in the area can continue to enjoy a safe and reliable gas supply.
Engineers will be working seven days a week to complete the job and there will be some temporary traffic lights in place during the work to keep motorists moving.
The road will be closed between its junctions with Beech Road and Firdale Road from July 23rd and a diversion will be in place but access to Firdale Road will be maintained for residents. This road closure has been programmed in the school summer holidays to keep disruption to a minimum.
National Grid has been working with Cheshire West and Chester Council to plan the project in conjunction with the Winnington Urban Village highway improvement works. Once these works are completed, the Burrows Hill/Beech Road junction improvement scheme will be completed, including resurfacing and the installation of traffic signals.
Stephen Murray, Head of Contract for National Grid said: “We appreciate that this is a lengthy project but our engineers will be working seven days a week to get it done quickly and efficiently. We’re please to have been able to work with the council to make sure that road improvements are made immediately following our work on the gas main to save further future disruption for local residents and road users.”
