- Archery and climbing are big hits on sun-filled day of fun
- Baby boomers book-in for a check-up plus some beauty tips
More than 220 people aged over 50 – helped by National Grid volunteers - joined in a fun-filled day to discover how to get the most out of life.
With people living far longer, National Grid supported Age UK and the Green Towers Club in holding a special “Over 50’s Day” on Friday (18 September) at the Green Towers Club in Hinckley, Leicestershire. It attracted people aged from 50 to 85.
The weather was perfect for those ambitious over-50’s to go wall climbing, practise archery or even fool around as clowns.
And, inside the hall there were a score of activities to entertain all needs; folk dancing, a vintage tea dance, singing, Tai Chi, flower arranging and drawing lessons.
One big attraction was the health clinic where lots of people had their blood pressure and cholesterol levels checked by a medical team.
And there was a rush for nail manicures and foot massages
Tanya Hutchinson, National Grid organiser, said: “The sunny weather set the tone – it was a wonderful day with so much fun and laughter. National Grid is delighted to be part of such an energising day and once again be supporting the local community. And all our volunteers did an excellent job in helping and co-ordinating events.”
The special day also included a raft of learning opportunities, with talks about the nearby Battle of Bosworth – where Richard III was killed in 1485. Also, the role of the Leicestershire Regiment in World War 1.
There was also a talk on Asian Culture and crafts and a Bhangra dance show.
