- Gas mains renewal making good progress
- Work in Church Street set to take one more week
Cavendish Road, in the Suffolk village of Clare, is set to reopen to traffic this weekend as a vital National Grid gas mains upgrade heads to the finishing line.
The road, which has been closed for four weeks, is expected to reopen on Sunday, once reinstatement work in the road and pavement are completed.
Gas mains renewal which is underway in Church Street is expected to take another week. Temporary traffic lights and parking restrictions in Church Street will remain in place until the work is finished.
Andrew Stone, National Grid Operations Interface Manager, said: “We are making good progress on the project. Cavendish Road is expected to reopen on time and we expect the work in Church Street to be finished a week early.
“We have always been very mindful of the impact of our work on the community. Our teams are working seven days a week and additional hours to complete this essential work as soon as possible.
“The new pipes that we are installing will help ensure local people enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies until the end of the century.”
National Grid is renewing 400 metres of gas mains in Cavendish Road and Church Street. Work started on 13 July and has seen ageing iron gas mains replaced with tough, hardwearing plastic pipes with a lifespan of at least 80 years
Businesses in the town remain open as usual.
