This press release relates to Cadent work. It does not have Cadent branding on it, due to this press release being published prior to 1st May 2017, when this gas distribution business was part of National Grid’s group of businesses.
Engineers are working around the clock to get local people back on gas, after properties in Bacup, Rawtenstall, Newchurch, Waterfoot and Crawshawbooth were left without supplies following a gas escape and fire in Rawtenstall yesterday.
Work to repair the damaged gas pipe was completed this morning. Engineers now need to repressurise and test the gas system. When we have confirmed that it is safe we can begin restoring gas supplies to homes and businesses. Every effort is being made to do this as soon as possible, however, it is too early to say at this stage when this operation can begin. Further updates will be provided when possible.
Safety remains our top priority. Engineers will call on every house to restore the gas supply. In the meantime, people without gas should check all appliances are turned off and their gas supply is turned off at the meter.
If anyone requires help or has any concerns please call the national gas emergency service on 0800 111 999.
