The individually tailored programme helps students initially build work-related skills in the Business Learning Centre (BLC) before moving onto work placements, giving them the opportunity to try different careers and equipping them with experience needed by employers. Some work placements are provided by the collaborative partnership of Cadent and its key contractors and supply chain.
NEETs often have complex challenges such as being homeless, Looked After Children (LAC), have disabilities, parents in custody, socio-economic difficulties, experienced bereavement, school suspension/ exclusion or an abusive family and find it hard to progress into employment or further training. Whereas LAC account for only 1% of young people less than 6%, compared to 42%, go onto further education.
GetSkilled currently operates at Warwick University located on the Coventry border and Liverpool John Moores. Local partnerships have been formed with Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) and they deliver GetSkilled projects at the University locations.
In Warwick and Liverpool 73% and 87% respectively of students have gone onto positive destinations, including apprenticeships, employment or returned to education.
